We are hiring a Marketing Manager at Tilted Axis Press!

16-24 hours a week, upon negotation. Freelance.

Location: London-Hybrid

A varied role involving traditional marketing and social media, for a dynamic young feminist press. 

Founded in 2015, Tilted Axis Press focuses on contemporary fiction from Asia and Africa, in a variety of Englishes. Our list includes International Booker Prize winning TOMB OF SAND duo Geetanjali Shree and Daisy Rockwell, rising stars from South Korea, and the UK's first-ever contemporary translations from Thai and Uzbek. Reviewed in the likes of the Guardian and the FT, and stocked in bookshops worldwide like Transit Santa and Foyles, our books have a committed audience of readers. We're looking for an enthusiastic, pro-active book lover to help take us to the next level. Someone who thinks globally and is ready to do things differently, to push the parameters of what marketing in publishing looks like. 

You'll need to keep abreast of what's happening in the industry, with a constant eye out for new opportunities – organisations to collaborate, advertising spots in print & online, time-specific happenings for tie-in events & promotions. You'll also need to be creative, with original ideas for getting the most out of a small budget and helping Tilted Axis stand out from the crowd.

Summary

As Marketing Manager at Tilted Axis you will be the online voice of a forward-thinking, fun, feminist company. This role has recently been created, prior to this we have had our marketing run by our Community Manager and before this, our Publicity and Marketing Manager. The role will involve direct interaction with our readers. There’ll be a focus on digital marketing (especially social media), traditional marketing at book fairs and developing an overall social media strategy as well as campaigns for each new title, with the aim of reaching new people and engaging our existing Tilted Axis readers. You will also be promoting our back-list titles and the careers of the wider TAP family through socials. Writing online copy, creating more video and images with our Designer, and keeping in touch with our readers; working on each title with the Publicist. 

Responsibilities:

●  Creating engaging content for our social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)

●  Working with our Designer to create graphics for our titles, sharing quotes, designs etc

●  Promoting events; sharing reviews, interviews; promoting new titles to encourage sales

 ● Develop our existing social media accounts, and our newly created TikTok page.
●  Auditing social media regularly to check engagement and recording analytics

● Supporting publicity campaigns through marketing
●  Support publicist and editor with creating publicity and marketing copy

●  Engage with book clubs and wider community on our socials

●  Supporting our publicist with archiving reviews and events

● Asking our online audience what they’d like to see in the newsletter every now and then

●  Liaising with stakeholders taking part in our events and other publishers to establish marketing plans


●  Suggesting relevant opportunities, venues and partners to the publicist and team based on TAP social media interactions, to support our wider community work. 
●  Promoting events on social media; report on events when appropriate

● Commissioning & editing web content including blog posts with with the rest of the team; edit and these promote posts
●  Recommending information and books for the TAP newsletter

● Supporting the team by publicising and organising other occasional projects related to marketing and publicity such as crowdfunding, applications, grant assessment. 

Essentials

● excellent copywriting skills

● pro-active and able to work on own initiative

● experience in / exceptional aptitude for marketing

● Strong knowledge of the current literary scene in the UK and abroad, particularly translated fiction 

● good at developing relationships & liaising with multiple organisations

Desirables

● Working knowledge of any Asian and African languages

● Ability to communicate online in a fun and sensitive way, to communicate the press's wider mission

● Basic digital skills – InDesign, social media advertising, cropping & collaging images etc
