SANDRA TAMELE


Sandra Tamele, BArch, CIOL DipTrans, is the first Mozambican to publish literature in translation (2007), founding member of the Mozambican Translators Association (2016) and Mozambican Publishers Association (2022). In 2015, Sandra designed seven consecutive editions of the annual literary translation competition that led to the establishment Editora Trinta Zero Nove (2018), the first Mozambican publisher dedicated to Literary Translation. The initiative was awarded the LBF International Excellence Award in 2021. Sandra’s start-up is spearheading the publication of audiobooks in the country, growing its catalogue to over fifty titles and seven languages and is a trailblazer in the PALOP with a growing distribution network, and the only publisher in the region with presence in the Bologna, Cairo, Frankfurt, London, and Sharjah International Book Fairs. Sandra has translated seventeen books (poetry, short stories and novels) from English and Italian and is a featured author in Tilted Axis’s anthology Violent Phenomena: 21 Essays on Translation (edited by Dr Kavita Bhanot & Jeremy Tiang).
